Position Description

Survivor Justice Center is seeking a Senior Attorney with significant experience in immigration law and a strong commitment to social justice advocacy. The successful candidate will represent low‑income survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking in a variety of affirmative and defensive immigration matters, focusing on relief under VAWA, U visas, and T visas. Responsibilities include representing clients at USCIS interviews, removal defense hearings before EOIR, state court hearings to obtain SIJS orders, and ICE check‑ins, as needed.

The role also involves representing immigrant survivors in criminal justice advocacy, public benefits, and other related practice areas that intersect with survivor needs, and providing mentorship, guidance, and technical assistance to immigration staff attorneys, legal advocates, and pro‑bono partners.

Responsibilities
  • Provide litigation‑related services, including drafting legal documents, conducting discovery, case management, oral advocacy, and negotiation in hearings and trials.
  • Draft immigration petitions, motions, and appeals to USCIS, EOIR, and BIA as needed.
  • Conduct client intakes and maintain a client caseload.
  • Provide mentorship to other attorneys and co‑counsel cases with staff as needed.
  • Deliver educational presentations to community partners and client communities on immigration topics and legal remedies for immigrant survivors.
  • Lead projects related to specialized areas of immigration law.
  • Assume a leadership role among community partners and service providers by providing technical assistance, training, and participating in provider networks related to expertise areas.
  • Assist with program administration and the development of best practices for case management and other service delivery areas.
  • Engage in other tasks and projects that further the Center’s mission and operations.
Qualifications
  • J.D. degree and membership in good standing in the California Bar.
  • A minimum of seven years of legal experience, including experience as lead counsel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in immigration law.
  • Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.
