SCA Analytic Linguist; Spanish Security Clearance

Overview

SOSi is seeking Spanish Linguists in multiple locations in California (Los Angeles, Riverside, San Francisco, San Diego) to support our federal law enforcement customer. The Spanish Analytic Linguist will provide operational support to perform linguist and translator duties as assigned by the PMO. The role involves live monitoring, translation, transcription, and interpretation support for ongoing and upcoming investigations. Assignments may require shift flexibility, including nights and weekends.

The ideal candidate will be computer savvy, a self-starter, and flexible to support assignments on short notice.

• Monitor live communications and, as lawful intercepts occur, provide immediate verbal summaries and subsequent written or typed English summaries.
• Transcribe audio/video and written communications to and from the source language and English as required.
• Interpret consecutively or simultaneously to and from the source language and English as required.
• Validate translations, transcriptions, or quality control reviews to attest to the accuracy of the final work.
• Summarize oral or written communications with concise and accurate synopses.
• Provide reliable, accurate gist and summaries of intercepted communications to law enforcement officers.
• Attend federal and state legal briefings (Title III minimization) prior to the beginning of any new investigation.
• Assist law enforcement officers in preparing evidence and investigation summaries for potential federal or state trials.
• Serve as a factual witness in federal or state court when subpoenaed to testify.
• Maintain regular communication with the program manager and keep them informed of available hours/days/shifts for upcoming assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the customer or the Program Manager.

• Minimum requirements:
  
  Must be 18 years old or older; high school diploma or equivalent.
• U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident with legal work status; only contractor personnel who are U.S. citizens will have access to classified documents.
• Minimum of one year of translation experience in the required language.
• Demonstrated proficiency in English and the target language, as shown by testing conducted within five years prior to commencing work.
• Certified or the ability to become certified in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language and English.
• Familiarity with Intercept Systems is a plus (e.g., Jatom Systems Incorporated (JSI) Voice Box Intercept System and Pen-Link Lincoln Intercept System).
• Strong oral communication skills with law enforcement officials of varying backgrounds.
• Ability to understand slang and colloquial expressions and translate them into English without losing meaning or context.
• Native fluency in language(s) other than English; excellent command of English for clear translations, transcriptions, and summaries.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software.
• Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
• Familiarity with various media storage (cassettes, video, digital media).
• Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

• Experience as a linguist in support of defense, intelligence, or law enforcement agencies.
• Federal law enforcement clearance.
• Flexibility to support assignments on short notice and availability for multiple shifts, including weekends.

• Work Environment:
  Fast-paced, deadline-driven; shift-based schedules may include 24/7 operations.
• Office environment with locations assigned per project.
