Position:
Language & Cultural Specialist II / Spanish Interpreter / Outpatient at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).
Provide interpreting services in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate communication between Spanish-speaking patients and healthcare providers. Provide written translations of medical instructions, medication schedules, and administrative materials. Collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver care and assist in training and orienting new staff interpreters. Comply with patient confidentiality and informed consent policies.
Responsibilities- Interpret orally for outpatient Spanish‑speaking patients.
- Translate medical documents and communications in written form.
- Assist with training and orientation of new interpreters.
- Collaborate with team members and maintain confidentiality.
- Minimum 2+ years interpreting/translation experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience working with diverse cultural, socio‑economic, and demographic populations.
- Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Ability to translate and interpret medical terminology across developmental and educational levels.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- Completion of at least 40 hours of Healthcare Interpreter training required.
- Certification:
Healthcare Interpreter National Certification via CCHI or NBCMI;
Translator Certification via ATA; or ASL Interpreter Certification via NAD‑RID (if applicable). - Score of 85–90% on language proficiency assessment by CHLA‑selected vendor.
