This position is a remote property claims role that services insureds/agents in West Los Angeles County. The selected candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to the assigned territory. Ideal locations include Los Angeles, Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, Santa Monica, El Monte, Inglewood, Torrance, Downey, Norwalk, and surrounding areas. The role involves handling first-party property claims of moderate severity and complexity under moderate supervision, including investigations, evaluations, estimations, and negotiations to ensure optimal claim resolution.
The position may involve handling other lines of business (e.g., auto, workers compensation, premium audit, underwriting) as needed. The role is based 100% remotely and may include a combination of mobile work and/or work from the primary residence."
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range is provided as a nationwide market range and depends on the scope, complexity, and location of the role, as well as the candidate’s skills, education, training, credentials and experience. The position is eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards. Salary range: $67,000.00 - $. This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus.
Location Requirement
This role services Insureds/Agents in West Los Angeles County. The selected candidate must reside in or relocate to the assigned territory at their own expense.
- Handle 1st party property claims of moderate severity and complexity as assigned.
- Complete field inspections of losses with accurate scope of damages, photographs, and estimates (written or computer assisted).
- Leverage innovative technologies to support claim handling.
- Investigate and evaluate facts to determine coverage, damages and liability; analyze leases, contracts, by-laws and other documents that may impact claims; secure statements as appropriate.
- Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
- Determine appropriate settlement amounts using independent judgment and applicable estimates; validate contractor estimates; apply limits and deductibles; collaborate with Independent Adjusters as needed.
- Negotiate with contractors and insured representatives; communicate settlements within authority.
- Write denial letters, Reservations of Rights, and other complex correspondence.
- Assess damages and manage costs with appropriate evaluation tools; maintain quality standards per Knowledge Guides.
- Maintain diary system and document claim file activities; manage file inventory for timely resolution.
- Ensure compliance with state regulations and internal/external quality standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to insureds, agents and partners; refer to Travelers Special Investigations Unit or Subrogation Unit when appropriate.
- Mentor less experienced claim professionals as needed; participate in depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials and trials as required.
- Participate in Catastrophe Response Program (CAT Duty) which could require deployment away for a minimum of 16 days (including 2 travel days).
Licensing and Education
In order to perform essential functions, acquisition and maintenance of insurance licenses may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements. Licenses must typically be obtained within three months of starting and require ongoing continuing education credits where mandated.
Physical Demands
The role may require access to and inspection of all areas of a dwelling or structure and involves physical activity including climbing ladders (weighing approximately 38 to 49 pounds), walking on roofs, and negotiating tight spaces (attics, crawl spaces, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; one year of previous outside property claim handling experience or successful completion of Travelers Outside Claim Representative training; valid driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).
- General knowledge of estimating system (Xactimate).
- Customer service experience; advanced interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently.
- Judgment, analytical and decision-making skills; negotiation skills.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication; investigative skills; ability to analyze and determine coverage and damages.
- Ability to resolve claims within settlement authority.
- Valid passport.
