Overview

The United States Space Force (USSF) in Los Angeles AFB, El Segundo, CA is searching for a Lead Data Architect to support SYD 85 (NH-1550-04, GS-14/15 Equivalent).

Description:

The candidate is expected to contribute to strategic planning efforts by identifying how data is processed, protected, persistent, integrated/federated with other data repositories, and disseminated across a wide variety of mission and operational space data. The role supports agency priorities and performance goals, ensuring alignment with the mission of the unit and the broader agency; deliver reports, presentations, and briefings to support leadership decision-making and stakeholder communication.

Organization: The United States Space Force (USSF) is a military service that organizes, trains, and equips military members and civilians to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and provide space capabilities to the joint force. USSF responsibilities include developing Guardians, acquiring military space systems, maturing the military doctrine for space power, and organizing space forces to present to our Combatant Commands (CCMDs).

Responsibilities
  • Lead data architecture efforts for the Data Federation portfolio, guiding future architecture and design.
  • Contribute to strategic planning by identifying data processing, protection, persistence, integration/federation, and dissemination across mission data.
  • Support agency priorities and performance goals; deliver reports, presentations, and briefings for leadership decision-making and stakeholder communication.
Qualifications and Experience
  • STEM degree (BS, MS or PhD); preferably in computer science, data engineering, or systems engineering.
  • Experience with Department of War (DoW) and Department of the Air Force (DAF) data governance, data sharing and security protocols.
  • Ability to lead future architecture and design for the Data Federation portfolio.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of advanced multidisciplinary professional engineering practices such as data science, computer science, research analysis concepts, principles, standards, methods, and techniques to apply experimental theories and new developments to problems.

Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. and NATO Intelligence Information system programs, IT systems requirements management, IT services including operational theater support, exercise planning related to services utilization, and experience in requirements specification and implementation for national, multinational and NATO intelligence systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Defense Intelligence Enterprise (DIE) program goals, milestones, and methods to evaluate planning actions as related to actual events.
  • Expert knowledge of a wide range of technical information systems including Web-based application development using Java, XML-based metadata generation and handling, HTTP/HTTPS/FTP protocols, and interfacing software with SQL databases.
  • Working knowledge of current programming languages and frameworks (e.g., JavaScript libraries such as jQuery/ExtJS, PHP, SQL database administration, eXo portal development/administration, SAML 2, active directories and federation server, LDAP directory services, cross-domain security, PKI, and vulnerability assessment tools).
  • Experience with information system security engineering principles for developing and accrediting information systems that protect sensitive and classified information; experience with secure service-oriented architectures and worldwide cloud services (IaaS, security as a service).
