Regulatory Compliance Specialist, HR Manager, Talent Manager, Employee Relations
We are seeking a sophisticated and detail-oriented Human Resources Manager to lead our law firm clients HR operations. This role is a key partner to firm leadership, responsible for managing the full employee lifecycle and ensuring that our talent strategy meets the high standards of a premier legal practice.
Core ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Integration: Manage full-cycle recruiting for attorneys and professional staff, ensuring a seamless transition from onboarding to long-term integration.
Employee Relations: Serve as a trusted advisor to partners and staff alike, mediating complex personnel issues and fostering a culture of professional excellence.
Performance Management: Facilitate the annual review process, providing guidance on professional development, compensation benchmarking, and career pathing.
Operational Oversight: Manage the firm’s HRIS, benefits administration, and payroll coordination with an emphasis on accuracy and data integrity.
California Regulatory Expertise (Required)The successful candidate must possess direct, hands-on experience supporting California-based offices and employees. This role requires a specialist who is intimately familiar with the complexities of the California Labor Code and can navigate the state’s rigorous regulatory environment independently.
Key areas of required expertise include:
Wage & Hour: Mastery of California-specific overtime, meal and rest period requirements, and itemized pay stub compliance.
Leave Administration: Expert management of CFRA, PDL, and California Paid Family Leave in coordination with federal FMLA.
Compliance & Risk: Proactive management of HR policies to ensure strict adherence to PAGA, FEHA, and evolving state-specific transparency laws.
Experience & QualificationsIndustry Experience: Prior experience within a law firm is highly preferred. However, we will consider candidates with a strong background in other professional services industries (e.g., accounting, consulting, or architecture/engineering) who understand the nuances of a partner-led business model.
Professional Experience: 5+ years of progressive HR management experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
Certifications: PHR-CA, SPHR-CA, or SHRM-CP/SCP with California-specific credentials strongly preferred.
Skills: High proficiency in HRIS platforms and the Microsoft Office Suite.
