Director, Human Resources and Administration

Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources and Administration is responsible for all HR functions at the Company, and shares oversight of administrative and facilities management needs. This strategic role is charged with operating from an emotionally intelligent, customer service driven viewpoint that prioritizes employee satisfaction. The Director of HR & Administration will enforce legally compliant policies, increase efficiency by implementing administrative and record-keeping best practices, partner closely with the payroll function, and maintain a safe and welcoming office environment for staff and guests.

This role has a dual report to the President & COO and the CFO, and supervises the Facilities Specialist.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee all human resources functions company-wide
  • Oversee office administration for main office location
  • Ensure full legal compliance by keeping abreast of evolving federal, state, and local labor laws
  • Review, implement, and maintain organizational policies in partnership with the President and CFO
  • Partner with ADP Total Source PEO and production payroll vendors on oversight of company insurance policies, benefits offerings, and Workers’ Comp programs
  • Escalate sensitive employee issues or legal risks to the C-Suite as appropriate; lead internal investigations and collaborate with outside counsel on litigious matters
  • Own performance management strategy, tools, and execution
  • Partner with department heads to assess business needs and bring forward strategic HR solutions;
    act as thought partner to employees at all levels, providing day-to-day guidance on workplace dynamics and problem-solving
  • Own full-cycle recruiting for staff-level roles, ensuring legal compliance and consistency in candidate experience
  • Champion the full employee (and intern) lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding, to ensure a high-impact, compliant, and welcoming experience
  • Lead all logistical and legal aspects of our internship program, ensuring a valuable experiential learning environment
  • Continuously improve the overall employee experience by overseeing culture-building efforts such as company events, employee gifting, and other morale-boosting programs
  • Implement and maintain effective processes for facilities and office management to ensure a safe and well-functioning environment; maintain positive working relationship with landlord and vendors
  • Supervise the Facilities Specialist, providing mentorship and strategic direction on office operations and customer support
  • Partner with President and CFO
  • Lead or support special projects and organizational priorities as needed

Desired Qualifications, Knowledge and

Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 5+ years of Human Resources management experience, with a track record of growth and success
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred but not required
  • Thorough understanding of US labor and wage & hour laws, legal compliance, and HR best practices, with emphasis on California and New York law
  • Strong leadership and exceptional communication skills, with an ability to influence and partner with senior stakeholders
  • Proven track record of fostering positive workplace environments, planning successful employee events, and modeling a spirit of collaboration and trust
  • Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now is preferred
  • Entertainment industry knowledge is a plus but not required
  • This role is in-person from The Jim Henson Company’s offices in Los Angeles.
