OverviewFlamingo Estate is seeking an experienced, bilingual HR Manager to own the operational and administrative foundation of our people function as we grow. This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of HR operations — including payroll, benefits, compliance, and contractor management — while also helping establish clear policies, procedures, and reporting structures that support a growing organization. This is a hands-on role for someone who has worked within smaller, growing companies and understands how to build HR systems thoughtfully — balancing structure, care, and culture.
The ideal candidate is deeply knowledgeable in California labor law, comfortable operating independently, and aligned with Flamingo Estate’s values of generosity, integrity, and collaboration.
- HR Operations & Compliance:
Manage payroll administration and coordination across full-time employees and contract staff. - Oversee benefits administration, including healthcare plans, 401(k), and annual...
- Ensure compliance with California labor laws and employment regulations.
- Maintain accurate employee records, contracts, and HR documentation.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes for employees and contractors.
- Serve as the point of contact for HR systems, vendors, and external partners.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures appropriate for a growing organization.
- Ensure policies are clear, accessible, and aligned with Flamingo Estate’s culture.
- Maintain employee handbook and internal documentation as the company teams.
- Employee Relations & Reporting:
Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees on HR-related questions, concerns, and reporting. - Support leadership in handling sensitive employee matters with care, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Help manage performance-related processes, documentation, and best practices.
- Ensure appropriate processes are in place for issue escalation, investigation, and resolution.
- People Support & Growth:
Partner with leadership on workforce planning and organizational needs. - Support where necessary on compensation planning, role leveling, and internal promotions.
- Assist with training coordination, compliance training, and HR-related education as needed.
- Contribute to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and values-driven workplace.
- 5+ years of HR experience, ideally within small to mid-sized companies (40–100 employees).
- Strong working knowledge of California labor laws and HR compliance requirements.
- Experience managing payroll, benefits, 401(k), and contractor vs. employee classification.
- Hands-on experience building or refining HR policies, procedures, and infrastructure.
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive matters thoughtfully.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with leadership.
- Experience in creative, consumer, or lifestyle-driven environments is a plus.
