PositionSummary
Reporting to the Manager of People Operations, the Academic Personnel Manager oversees all aspects of academic personnel administration for UCLA Extension instructors and related classifications. This role ensures compliance with UC and UCLA Academic Personnel Policies (APM and CALL), manages recruitment and contract processes, and partners with campus stakeholders to maintain equitable and inclusive practices. The position serves as a strategic advisor on policy interpretation, compensation structures, and operational enhancements while fostering instructional excellence and professional development.

Qualifications- 5 years Minimum of progression and experience in human resources within higher education administration, with particular relevant experience in academic personnel. (Required)
- Thorough knowledge of and / or ability to apply / interpret UC systemwide and UCLA campus Academic Personnel policies, practices, and relevant federal, state, & local laws that govern academic HR at the University.
Knowledge of grievance procedures and progressive discipline frameworks specific to instructional staff. Collaborates effectively with APO, Legal, Title IX/EEO, union representatives, and HR personnel. (Required) - Knowledge of trends in academia, especially in areas of academic planning, human resource management and administration. (Required)
- Expert-level experience using people data to inform equitable policy development, decision-making, and program implementation. (Required)
- Professional-level skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to: define problems or objectives, identify relevant concerns or factors, formulate objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications, and make recommendations to executive and senior leadership. (Required)
- Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills to implement and maintain responsibilities and to complete assignments under conditions of fluctuating workload with frequent interruptions. (Required)
- Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, coaching, and inclusive leadership skills, including ability to work with and support diverse teams. (Required)
- Emotionally intelligent and culturally aware communication skills, especially in the following settings: addressing conflict, sensitive employee relations situations, implementing organizational change, influencing decisions, and building trust with the workforce. (Required)
