Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Employee Relations, you will provide guidance and advice on employee relations matters for staff employees at UCLA Health. You will review disciplinary and other employment-related documents/actions (FMLA, layoffs, work rules, etc.) and collaborate with department HR Reps and senior leadership to ensure proper HR procedures are followed.

You will be responsible for policy/contract administration, including interpretation, implementation, and management of policies and contracts. You will partner with various departments to ensure best practices and compliance.

As Employee Relations Manager, you will represent UCLA Health in work-groups and committees, orient management on policy and legal compliance, and conduct investigations related to workplace issues, including Title IX, harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.

This is one of four open ER Manager roles. Salary range: $92,600-$202,200 annually.

Job Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in employment-related matters.
  • Knowledge of public sector laws/requirements; healthcare industry and higher education experience preferred; union environment experience preferred.
  • Skills in writing clear, concise, and persuasive documents, including reports and agreements.
  • Presentation skills for grievance meetings, training, and panels.
  • Knowledge of employment laws such as FMLA/CFRA, Reasonable Accommodation, VAWA/CANRA, HIPAA, HEERA, FLSA, contract interpretation, EEOC/DFEH/DOJ requirements.
  • Experience investigating harassment, discrimination, and workplace behavior issues.
  • Ability to draft proposals for negotiations and settlements.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and with UC offices.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
