Are you someone who finds joy in assisting others in reaching their goals? Do you prefer being out in the community rather than confined to a desk? We are looking for Community Guides to lend support to participants in our Community Integration Program.

• This is our 100% community-based day program serving adults with developmental disabilities. This program focuses on pre-vocational skills, safe use of public transport, social skills practice, and exploration of individual interests.

• Meeting participants at a community hub each morning, and facilitating the scheduled activities for the day, including the use of public transportation.
• Providing opportunities for participants to develop socialization/interpersonal communication skills and practice self-regulation/coping techniques.
• Providing hands-on training, observation, and evaluation of the participant’s pre-vocational skills, and finding educational opportunities or classes to assist with further development.
• Advocating for participants’ inclusion in the community and empowering them to exercise their rights.
• Using Build Ability’s digital program to log the individual’s progress and performance.

• Part-time (27 hours a week)
• Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m.

• Starting at $19.00 - $22.00/hour (depending on prior experience and qualifications)

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with individuals with disabilities, their family members, employers, and others in a positive and constructive manner.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must pass a DOJ Live Scan fingerprinting background clearance.
• Valid California Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.

• Fluent in Spanish.
• Cultural awareness and adaptability.
• Familiarity with the Los Angeles Metro system (Metro Go app, route planning, etc.).
• Crisis management skills.
• Prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities. If you don’t have experience, we will provide on-the-job training. Some of our best staff did not have experience prior to being hired at Build Ability!
