- Monday: 05:00 – 13:30
- Thursday: 05:00 – 13:30
- Friday: 06:00 – 14:30
Hours per Week: 24 hours
Weekend Coverage: As needed, per unit requirements
The Dialysis Technician will provide safe and effective acute dialysis treatments for adult and geriatric patients. This role involves operating dialysis equipment, monitoring patients during treatment, and collaborating with Dialysis, ICU, and Vascular Access teams to ensure high-quality patient care. First-time travelers are welcome with appropriate experience.
Roles and Responsibilities Pre-Dialysis Responsibilities- Prepare dialysis machines and equipment for treatment
- Prime dialyzers and extracorporeal circuits
- Inspect dialyzers for defects
- Perform dialysate conductivity and pH testing
- Prepare AV fistula and AV graft access
- Attach blood lines and concentrate lines
- Verify machine and alarm settings
- Initiate and monitor dialysis treatments
- Monitor arterial and venous pressures, blood flow rates (Qb), and dialysate flow rates (Qd)
- Operate T Machines and Myron L. Meter
- Perform recirculation procedures
- Monitor patient vital signs and clinical status
- Recognize and report changes in patient condition
- Troubleshoot machine alarms, including:
- Arterial and venous pressure alarms
- Conductivity alarms
- Dialysate pressure and temperature alarms
- Ultrafiltration alarms
- Power failure alarms
- Perform blood return procedures
- Provide post-treatment access care
- Clean and store equipment properly
- Complete accurate documentation of dialysis treatments
- Acute and chronic renal failure management
- Hemodialysis procedures
- Infection control and isolation precautions (PPE)
- Emergency procedures and CPR
- Quality control checks (test strips, glucose meters)
- Patient education and safety awareness
- Recognition and reporting of:
- Access failure or clotting
- Hypotension and orthostatic hypotension
- Muscle cramps
- Pyrogenic reactions
- Signs and symptoms of infection
- Changes in cognitive or mental status
- Adverse patient occurrences
- Acute care dialysis experience
- Dialysis machine setup and operation
- Dialysate knowledge and testing
- Machine alarm troubleshooting
- Accurate clinical documentation
- Strong communication and teamwork
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments
- Minimum 2 years of Dialysis Technician experience
- First-time travelers accepted with required experience
- Previous charge experience preferred
- AHA - BLS (Required)
- NNCC CCHT (Required)
- NNCC CCHT-A (Preferred)
- Valid California license required at time of submission
