Summary
Housing for Health (HFH) is a program office within Community Programs, under the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS). It supports the County’s efforts to address homelessness through the Skid Row Action Plan (SRAP), which focuses on technical assistance, interim housing, and coordination of placements for persons experiencing homelessness (PEH). The role involves supporting interim housing providers with training, technical assistance, and quality assurance to improve services for PEH with complex medical, mental health, and substance use issues.
The Mental Health TA specialist will participate in training, develop work plans, and collaborate with teams to enhance capacity and support client tenancy, crisis navigation, and housing placement. The ideal candidate is organized, systems-oriented, knowledgeable about homeless services, and flexible to meet evolving program needs.
Essential Functions
- Develop and deliver trainings on supporting residents with behavioral health challenges.
- Provide ongoing support through outreach, consultation, and modeling.
- Conduct evaluations to improve physical and social environments.
- Respond to consultation requests regarding mental health and substance use issues.
- Participate in planning and evaluating technical assistance activities.
- Build collaborative relationships with service providers.
- Assist in revising provider roles and clinical data sharing to improve care.
- Contribute to trauma-informed, harm reduction policies for Skid Row residents.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in social work, four years of professional social work experience (two in a medical setting), and active California LCSW license. Valid driver’s license and clearance required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Includes frequent standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting up to 15 lbs. Work is in a temperature-controlled office setting.
