The best women’s hospital in Los Angeles is looking for current RN candidates to staff Operating Room, Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby care units to be housed in our expanding new patient tower facility scheduled to open next year. Position Summary
- Responsible for the efficient management of all supplies and equipment within the Operating Room suite, ensuring availability and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborates closely with surgical staff, materials management, and vendors to maintain optimal inventory levels and support seamless surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory Management:
- Establish and maintain an organized system for storing and tracking all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and audits to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
- Monitor PAR levels and adjust as needed based on surgical volume and demand.
- Manage expiration dates and facilitate timely removal of expired items.
- Implement and maintain a first-in, first-out (FIFO) system.
- Supply Procurement:
- Generate purchase requisitions for supplies based on inventory levels and anticipated needs.
- Collaborate with Materials Management on vendor selection, pricing, and order placement.
- Expedite urgent supply orders as needed to prevent delays in surgical procedures.
- Receive and verify incoming supply shipments against purchase orders, resolving any discrepancies.
- Equipment Management:
- Track the location and status of all OR equipment.
- Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs of equipment with appropriate departments or vendors.
- Ensure availability of necessary equipment for scheduled surgical cases.
- Assist in the evaluation of new equipment and supplies.
- Communication and
Collaboration: - Serve as the primary point of contact for OR staff regarding supply and equipment inquiries.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia personnel, and other OR team members.
- Liaise with Materials Management, Purchasing, and vendors to resolve supply-related issues.
- Participate in OR staff meetings to provide updates on supply status and address concerns.
- Cost Control and Efficiency:
- Identify opportunities for cost savings through efficient supply utilization and inventory management.
- Track supply usage and identify trends.
- Assist in the implementation of standardized supply lists and preference cards.
- Maintain a clean and organized supply storage area.
- Other Duties:
- Assist with the orientation and training of new staff on supply management procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of current hospital policies and procedures related to supply chain management.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to supply management in the OR.
- Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- High School or equivalent
Preferred Education
- Associate s or Bachelor s degree in a related field is preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology and surgical procedure names
Minimum Work Experience And Qualifications
- Minimum one year recent experience as a buyer for medical supplies.
- Previous experience in healthcare supply chain, preferably in an operating room setting.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment with time restrictions in ordering specialty items.
- Ability to prioritize work in meeting deadlines for data usage and reports.
- Ability to manage supply budget within Perioperative Services department.
- Ability to manage complex computer programs in ordering supplies.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to work in a union environment.
Preferred Work Experience And Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in surgical services environment and workflow.
Required Licensure, Certification, Registration Or Designation
- American Heart Association BLS Card
- Current Los Angeles County Fire Card (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
- Assault Response Competency (ARC) required (within 30 days of hire)
