Role Overview

The Paraprofessional
- Adult Assistant will provide 1:1 behavioral support to an assigned student in and out of the classroom in accordance with their IEP. Support to student in classroom and group implementing behavior intervention/support plan.

Responsibilities
  • Collect data as it relates to the IEP (Individualized Education Programs) and behavior intervention/support plan under the guidance of the behavior intervention development specialist, on an assigned device.
  • Provide intervention for students in crisis, utilizing Crisis Prevention and Intervention methods (onsite and offsite per contract).
  • Support the special education teachers with the implementation of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for a specific student.
  • Remain within physical proximity of students.
  • May be required to provide daily transportation when needed.
  • Maintain physical visibility (in and out of the classroom) so that students are aware of staff’s presence.
  • Provide consistent supervision, protection, and care of the children, including all structured and unstructured times.
  • Maintain and ensure that all equipment and supplies are available for use in the rooms set up for de-escalation, sensory and quiet times, while providing a neutral, non-reinforcing environment.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor, staff, clients, and guests to give the best care, welfare, safety, and security for all.
  • Assist students with adaptive living skills, as needed, including dressing, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely manner, including incident reports, anecdotal records, and behavioral charting where required, and enters Time-Outs into the PBIS Program, and the agency’s online TIER system for Incident Reports.
  • Use the agency’s electronic email and payroll systems.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with the children via role modeling and coping strategies.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Required. Associates degree or 2 years of college credit (48 credits), or passage of the CBEST or other equivalent test showing proficiency in reading, math, and writing.
  • 2-4 years of experience working with students under the following eligibilities: emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and/or other developmental disabilities is preferred. Some classroom experience preferred.
  • Ability to hear and verbally communicate with others.
  • Ability to interrupt physical altercations among students.
