Overview

Southern California Medical Center is seeking a bilingual Referral Coordinator (Spanish & English) for our busy Van Nuys clinic.

Job Description

The Referral Coordinator will work with patients to arrange and schedule referral appointments, send reminders, and provide information regarding referral appointments. The role requires sitting at a desk for extended periods and using a computer and telephone.

  • Ensure current and standardized referral policies and workflows
  • Accurately send demographic, insurance, and clinical information to referred specialists
  • Prioritize referrals based on urgency and address them promptly
  • Serve as a point of contact for patients and specialists, assisting with language or social barriers
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times
  • Follow up on referrals until completion or patient decline
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is helpful
  • Possess interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of patient care and examination procedures is advantageous
  • Be punctual and organized
  • Work well in a team
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Manage scheduling efficiently
  • Proficient computer skills

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred but not mandatory
  • Experience in the medical field is preferred but not required
  • Experience in administrative roles or customer service is preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required
