Hours: Part‑time, Non‑Exempt

Location: West LA, Lynwood, and Mobile Unit

Salary:$23.00 per hour

General Description:

The Medical Assistant works directly with the medical staff at Claris Health to perform various office and clinical duties. This includes the performing of pregnancy tests, taking patient vitals, drawing blood, administering vaccines, maintaining patient records and clinic log‑books, checking insurance eligibility, explaining common medical procedures to patients, and assisting in basic examinations.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Medical Assistant with additional training in venipuncture.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training in accordance with the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to provide support to staff.
  • Strong patient care skills.
  • Agreement with the Claris Health Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Core Values, and Policies and Procedures.

Reports to: Lead Medical Assistant / Clinic Director

General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of patients.
  • Assist the Clinic Director and other medical providers in the implementation and maintenance of all medical policies and procedures related to the medical functions and services of the Claris Health.
  • Communicate with patients in person, by email, via text message, and over the phone.
  • All other duties as assigned.

CLINIC SERVICES

  • Perform pregnancy tests according to medical policies and procedures, documenting results in patient records.
  • Upload and transfer ultrasound images, according to medical policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate blood draws through venipuncture.
  • Administer vaccines when necessary.
  • Record patient information such as vital signs, weight and changes in medical history prior to each appointment.
  • Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments and terminal cleaning at the end of the day.
  • Maintain various logbooks for cleaning, ultrasound, pregnancy test, prenatal vitamins, STIs, pap smear, accu‑chek, hemocue, and oxygen.
  • Provide basic medical education to patients under the supervision and guidance of the Clinic Director or designee.
  • Provide medical referral services for patients as needed.
  • Work with Patient Advocates to follow up on patient outcomes.
  • Help maintain updated medical resources, materials, and referral lists.
  • Assist with the disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Prepare laboratory specimens for courier pick up and notify the laboratory of specimen readiness for pickup.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
  • Help represent Claris Health clinics to the medical community.
  • Assist with occasional facility tours with community partners or donors.
ADMINISTRATION
  • Update and maintain all digital patient records and assist in uploading hard copy records to digital format.
  • Help with the ordering needs of medical supplies in accordance with the budget.
  • Ensure that all necessary medical forms and packets are stocked and available.
  • Help maintain First Aid Kit, Earthquake Kit, and arrange for the annual calibration of all medical equipment as required in the policies and procedures manual.
  • Check insurance eligibility and help patients enroll in Medi‑cal. Assist with sending insurance authorizations and interfacing with L.A. Care Direct Network (for prenatal patients) and any other insurance agencies.
