Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Radiation Therapist applies ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription, follows instructions of the Radiation Oncologist, prepares immobilization devices and/or shielding blocks for patients receiving treatment, and calculates MU from appropriate graphs, and utilizes computer plans. Performs dosimetry and calibration procedures as indicated.

- Maintains technical knowledge of Radiation Oncology.
- Keeps stock and par levels in Radiation Oncology up to date.
- Delivers the prescribed planned course of Radiation Therapy with minimal supervision, including: checking prescription, diagnosis, and patient identification; reinforcing the Radiation Oncologist's instructions; preparing room and equipment; transferring patients safely; checking daily treatment and monitor unit settings; maintaining patient communication; marking patients under supervision; and scheduling procedures as needed.
- Observes patients for unusual reactions and events; reports reactions to the Department Supervisor and assists the patient by reporting to the Radiation Oncologist and/or Manager.
- Assists in tumor localization procedures, preparation of molds, etc.
- Assists in follow-up clinics and other clinical examinations of patients as needed.
- Minimum 1 year of Radiation Therapy experience required.
- AHA BLS certification required.
- Completion of an ACR-approved program in Radiation Therapy
- Registered Radiation Therapy Technologist
- Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT
- CRT (state) required.
- Fluoroscopy certification required.
- Fire Safety card required (must obtain within 90 days of start date).
This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
