ResponsibilitiesAs a Pediatric/Congenital Sonographer, you will assist in all echocardiograms performed in the Non‑Invasive Cardiac Laboratory (Echo) for the pediatric and adult congenital cardiac population. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the fetal echocardiography laboratory. You will provide support to outpatient and inpatient services, operating suite and catheterization lab for efficient operations. In this role you will be expected to:
- Provide a safe patient care environment.
- Have responsibility and accountability for performing transthoracic echocardiograms using state of the art ultrasound equipment to diagnose and manage cardiac conditions.
- Assist cardiologists in the acquisition of transesophageal, intracardiac and epicardial echocardiograms.
- Consistently demonstrate proficiency in the performance of all procedures and competency in the use of all related ultrasound equipment and computers.
- Be an active participant in departmental and performance improvement activities and mentor other staff. Collect/document data to meet clinical, financial, and regulatory requirements.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Graduation from a 2‑year accredited ultrasound school preferred
License/Certification/Registration:
- Current RDCS issued by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or RCS issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in Pediatric and/or Adult preferred
- BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of Sonographer experience required for Sonographer III
- Applicants with less than 5 years of experience may be considered as a Sonographer I or II
- At least 1 year of experience as a full‑time pediatric sonographer OR completion of a formal pediatric/congenital sonographer training program preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal communication, with persons of various cultural and educational backgrounds
- Available 24 hours/day when scheduled for on‑call activities
- Participation in significant ongoing congenital and pediatric training and will learn/follow extensive congenital protocols/workflows to ensure high standards
