The

Position

You will have the privilege of teaching children with autism meaningful skills including communication, socialization, self‑care, and school readiness. As a First Steps Behavior Technician, you will:

  • Experience milestones such as a child’s first words, first friend, first shoe tie, and more.
  • Work closely with and learn from teachers, parents, First Steps BCBAs, and behavioral health/mental health specialists.
  • Become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) with all initial credentialing fees paid by First Steps and participate in our paid training program.

New hires receive an average hourly rate of $21–$22 and are eligible for multiple wage increases throughout the year. Benefits include:

Kid Experience
  • We look for individuals with experience working with children or related volunteer, study, or job experience that demonstrates an interest in child development and a commitment to the well-being of all children.
Education
  • Proof of high‑school graduation and interest in psychology, behavioral health, child development, or mental health.
  • Graduate students in ABA may apply as Behavior Technicians and be eligible for clinical training and supervision hours toward BACB requirements, based on performance, role alignment, availability, and program needs.
Health & Safety Requirements
  • Childhood vaccinations and non‑reactive TB test.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, sit on floors or child‑sized furniture, and quickly move from a seated position to running stance.
