Cytoprep Technician III – West Hills, CA, Tuesday to Saturday, 2:00 AM to 10:30 AM

Pay range: $21.80 – $23.85 per hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.

Under general supervision, the position is proficient in all of the functions required of the Cytoprep preparatory Technician II. They are directly responsible for decision making, interacting, and reporting to the Cytology Prep Team Leader/Supervisor and/or Manager.

Responsibilities
  • All job accountabilities and duties required of the Cytoprep preparatory Technician II.
  • Accessions and processes Non‑Gyn specimens and/or Surepath specimens for microscopic evaluation.
  • Assign accession numbers, thin‑prep processing, Surepath processing, run the stainers, change reagents, and cover‑slipping.
  • Prep specimens for CT/NG testing.
  • Render a gross description of all Non‑Gyn specimens.
  • Ensure that all inventories are complete and appropriate supplies are ordered.
  • Follow all local, Business Unit and corporate safety policies and assure compliance of the Cytology Prep Lab.
  • Complete all quality control, safety, and preventative maintenance logs on a daily basis.
  • Train new Cyto Prep techs in proper cytopreparation techniques and accessioning procedures.
  • Dispose and label biohazard waste appropriately.
  • General problem‑solving.
  • Identify TIQ’s and problem specimens.
  • Maintain specimen identification and integrity throughout all processes of the department.
  • Begin and complete all assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with other departments, colleagues, and clients in problem‑solving.
  • Differentiated acceptable and unacceptable processing and staining of specimens.
  • Data entry skills.
  • Pay great attention to details and remain calm in difficult situations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Work Experience:

  • 3 years of Anatomic Pathology experience preferred.
  • Anatomic Pathology experience is desirable but not required.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Finger dexterity and hand‑eye coordination; handling of specimens and supplies.
  • Large amounts of standing, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching. Lifts and carries objects up to 30 lbs.
  • Work in a chemical environment.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious materials and the possibility of injury due to chemicals.
