Base pay range: $22.91/hr - $24.38/hr
ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of a licensed practitioner, the Medical Assistant will perform non‑invasive routine technical supportive services of clinic patient care relating to therapeutic and diagnostic functions, following established policies & procedures, and techniques. The supervising licensed practitioner must be physically present in the treatment facility for the Medical Assistant to perform non‑invasive technical supportive services. The Medical Assistant also provides a variety of administrative, assistive & supportive clinical and outreach activities.
The Medical Assistant cannot evaluate or synthesize data.
Direct & Administrative: Registered Nurse Supervisor, Program Manager, Clinic Administrator or designee
Technical/Clinical: Licensed Independent Practitioner in consultation with the Director of Nursing Services or designee
For positions assigned to clinical areas of Family Medicine:
- Must demonstrate within ninety days of employment, competency in the usage of clinical equipment and Point‑of‑Care testing (e.g., pregnancy test, urine dip, etc.). Have knowledge of instrument sterilization procedures and processes.
For positions assigned to clinical areas of Women’s Health Services:
- Must demonstrate within ninety days of employment, competency in using clinical equipment, Point‑of‑Care testing (e.g., pregnancy test, urine dip, etc.), and knowledge of instrument sterilization procedures and processes.
- Must pass the Family Planning Health Worker written and video certification within six months of employment.
- Possess a minimum of one full year’s paid experience in Gynecology and/or Obstetrics services preferred.
- Maintain a current Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR Policy.
- Display qualities of dependability and reliability, be willing to accept a variety of tasks, and able to comprehend quickly and follow instructions accurately.
- Communicate tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity; with staff, patients, and family members.
- Write and print legibly.
- Be well groomed and display mature behavior.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- Be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
- Maintain or exceed Medical Assistant competency levels as established by corporate standards for clinical practice.
- Demonstrate through written and oral testing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and have knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Identify and categorize each patient’s age‑specific group needs (infant, adolescent, adult, or geriatric).
- Fluency in English (speaks, reads and writes).
- Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translates, reads and writes) and complete the mandatory Medical Interpretation course offered at NEVHC.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and patient/client information.
- Utilize electronic medical records effectively to intake and document patient information and schedule appointments.
- Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
