EKG Technician - Cardiology - Full Time 8 Hour Rotating Shift (Non-Exempt) (Union)
Veterans in Healthcare is seeking an EKG Technician to work as part of our Cardiology Department. Join a team dedicated to providing high‑quality cardiovascular care.
Responsibilities- Perform technically adequate ECGs.
- Collect ECG data from ECG machines hospital‑wide; download data into the ECG database and ensure proper billing of ECG studies.
- Assist in transportation of patients to and from the Cardiology department.
- Prepare ECG for interpretation by cardiologists.
- Maintain and stock supplies on ECG carts.
- Report critical values to licensed caregivers.
- Build courteous, cooperative, service‑oriented relationships with patients, the public, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Provide a clean, safe environment for patients and visitors.
- Respond promptly to STAT ECGs as per departmental policy and procedure.
- Participate in department performance improvement projects.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to any age‑related needs of patients served in the unit.
- Work in conjunction with the Cardiology nurse and supervisor to ensure high‑quality diagnostic studies.
- Report and document unusual or critical values to the attending cardiologist in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Prepare accurate charge documents, maintain accurate and meaningful patient records, and document studies in the department log sheet in a timely manner.
- Maintain department supply levels.
- Use all equipment properly.
- Perform proper cleaning of laboratory equipment, including high‑level disinfection of TEE probes.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Exercise sound judgment in relating physician orders to the actual condition and needs of the patient.
- Consult with the supervisor and attending or ordering physician when indicated.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited program for EKG certification.
- At least 2 years of experience in a hospital‑based non‑invasive cardiology lab performing 12‑lead ECGs.
- Ability to perform right‑sided precordial leads (V4R, V5R, V6R) and posterior leads (V7, V8, V9).
- Ability to perform serial 12‑lead ECGs.
- Ability to recognize ECG tracings appropriate for patients with pacemakers and AICDs and adjust technical settings accordingly.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Preferred experience performing exercise and chemical stress studies, and Holter and event monitor set‑up and review.
- BLS Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If not requested upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days and maintained by renewal before expiration (required only in LA City).
Hourly rate range: $23.00–$39.10.
