We are the only long-term care hospital dedicated entirely to children. Our residents' ages range from newborn to 21 years of age and we are dedicated to enriching the health and quality of life of our kids.

We are looking for a skilled full-time NOC RCP (Respiratory Care Practitioner) to become a part of our facility's compassionate caregiving family. The RCP will interact directly with patients, providing basic Respiratory Care including appropriate monitoring of the patient during therapies. Respiratory Care procedures include ventilator management, insertion and/or maintenance of artificial airways, assessment, and monitoring of respiratory status including the performance of spirometry procedures.

Each RCP has between 10 to 12 residents per shift, depending on resident needs.

Qualifications
  • License: Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license as issued by the State of California is mandatory at all times.
  • Knowledge: Possess a working knowledge of all Respiratory Care procedures, modalities, and equipment utilized in pediatric and adolescent care at this facility.
  • Education/Training: Must be a graduate of an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Experience: One year of Respiratory Care experience in either an acute or subacute pediatric facility is preferred.
  • Certifications: CRTT or RRT as issued by the NBRC (RRT preferred). BCLS, PALS are required; ACLS preferred.

Duties Summaries
  • Provide basic Respiratory Care including appropriate monitoring of patient during therapies.
  • Perform Critical Respiratory Care including high/low flow oxygen delivery systems, monitoring and invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support.
  • Perform tracheostomy care and tracheostomy tube changes.
  • Identify specific areas where resident or family education is indicated and follow through to completion.
  • Provide clear and detailed exchanges of information with other staff as necessary to facilitate the most appropriate and efficient care of the resident to whom you are assigned.
  • Respond appropriately to “stat team” and CPR situation, managing the airway and providing respiratory care as necessary.
  • Be a team member.
  • Act professional.
  • Check for appropriate backup trachs (2) and ambu bags (2) during endorsement at bedside.
  • Ensure proper patient assessment is done at the beginning of the shift.
  • Ensure treatment is performed as per doctor's order and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patient rooms are covered when nurses are on break or busy.
  • Ensure the airway patent and clear at all times.
  • Date all medication that is required to be dated (e.g. xopenex, pulmicort, mucomyst, etc).
  • Date all water bottles, circuits, and filters.
  • Offer help any time you are not busy.
  • Endorse medication keys and patient condition at bedside.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to crouch /stoop as required.
  • Lifting Requirements:
    Must be capable of lifting or carrying objects that weigh up to 45 pounds.
  • Must be able to discern colors.
  • Physical skills necessary to operate all equipment: must be able to stand, reach in all directions, lift, and carry objects. Must have fine motor skills.
  • Must have 20/20 vision (correction devices allowed) and be able to appropriately read patient information, posted materials, and other written information.
  • Must hear (correctional devices allowed) and comprehend well enough to give and receive information for appropriate completion of duties.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and listen in English with a skill level essential for communication in a sub-acute facility.
  • Must have normal physical stamina.
  • Must be able to bend and twist.
  • Must have full use of both hands.
  • Must be able to walk intermittently, six to ten hours per shift.
  • Must be able to perform chest compressions and hand resuscitator ventilation during CPR.
Education Provided

BLS, PALS, and FIRE classes are provided by the facility.
