Medical Staff Coordinator

Job Description

The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Credentialing Specialist to coordinate the credentialing program for the appointment of medical practitioners to the medical staff of a hospital or clinic.

Responsibilities will include:

• Evaluating completed credentialing and proctoring documents submitted by Credentialing Specialists.
• Attending Committee meetings and presenting completed medical staff and allied health practitioner credentialing and proctoring files.
• Preparing meeting notices, minutes, agendas, and status reports for committee meetings.
• Conducting routine internal audits of the review process to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Guiding and training staff on appropriate credentialing policies and proper primary source verification procedures.

Selection requirements include two years of recent experience in a Medical Staff Services Office or health care environment as a Credentialing Specialist, or three years of recent experience performing medical staff credentialing functions for a hospital, ambulatory care center, group practice, or health maintenance organization.

Desirable qualifications include additional experience in excess of the selection requirements and possession of a valid Certified Professional Medical Services Management certificate or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist certificate.

• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed.
• All required licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted.

This position requires light physical effort, occasional light lifting, bending, stooping, or squatting, and considerable ambulation.

Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
