Pharmacy Tech - Pharmacy - Per Diem 8 Hour Rotating Shift (Non-Exempt) (Union)

About the RoleThe Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing and distributing medications for patient consumption under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with standard departmental procedures.
Essential Duties- Works under direct supervision of the pharmacist at all times. Responsible duties include drug distribution and intravenous admixture throughout the hospital and/or infusion center.
- Competency in performing ALL aspects of the Pyxis automated dispensing systems, ensuring all medications are appropriately barcoded.
- Maintains accurate controlled substance inventory utilizing the CII Pyxis system (Keck only).
- Prepares and dispenses medications accurately and efficiently with pharmacist verification.
- Certified in chemotherapy preparation practices and proficient with the Texium system.
- Generates revenues by calculating, recording, and issuing charges (OR billing).
- Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Consistently documents all pharmacy log sheets.
- Completes monthly expiration medication assignments and documents consistently.
- Repackages/unit-doses medications using the MILT4 program.
- Employs aseptic technique.
- Utilizes technology (computer, telecommunications, Cerner system, Power Chart, Pyxis) to triage workflow for efficient medication delivery, including checking medication history, printing labels, and checking drip rates.
- Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking stock, restocking, and rotating medications and supplies.
- Assists healthcare providers with phone calls in a timely manner (answers questions, requests, and triages calls to appropriate personnel).
- Prioritizes responsibilities appropriately and manages shift-specific workflow.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduated from an accredited Pharmacy Technician School.
- At least 1 year of pharmacy experience.
- Ability to perform dose calculations, double-check accuracy of product selection, and assure performance of both aseptic and hazardous drug compounding techniques that require a USP
797/800 compliant clean room and personal protective equipment. - Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.

Required Licenses/Certifications- Pharmacy Technician (CA DCA) registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); if no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only).
Hourly rate range: $23.00 – $39.10. Salary is determined by a variety of factors including scope of responsibilities, experience, education, and market considerations.
