  • The mission of the Social Development Program is to provide comprehensive behavioral instruction, direct social skills instruction and support in a highly structured, therapeutic, nonpunitive environment for students within special education whose behavior significantly hinders their achievement in the school setting.
Responsibilities
  • Provide small-group counseling sessions focused on self-regulation, coping skills, social problem solving, conflict resolution and emotional literacy.
  • Model and coach classroom teams in integrating therapeutic strategies throughout the day, including Zones of Regulation and Superflex curriculum.
  • Develop, in collaboration with student’s DIS counselor, individualized therapeutic plans aligned with each student’s IEP goals and the SD Program’s social-emotional framework.
  • Support students in generalizing social-emotional skills across environments (classroom, recess, community, transitions).
  • Lead structured SEL (Social Emotional Learning) activities and reflection routines within SD classrooms.
  • Serve as an integral member of the SD Team, working in partnership with the BCBA, classroom teachers, BIs, and Head of School.
  • Participate in weekly SD team huddles to review data, discuss trends, and adjust interventions.
  • Collaborate with BCBAs to align behavioral supports and therapeutic interventions to be affirming, effective and ensuring consistency and fidelity across settings.
  • Consult with staff on trauma-informed practices, co-regulation, and proactive intervention strategies.
  • Communicate regularly with families to support generalization of skills and family partnership.
  • Ensure that all therapeutic support is implemented with fidelity across all SD classrooms.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports in accordance with HG and CDE requirements.
  • Contribute to ongoing program development and data collection efforts to monitor program outcomes.
  • Participate in professional development, supervision, and program-wide initiatives to enhance quality and consistency of care.
  • Maintain an approximate caseload of 5 clients within the Lumina department.
  • Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards and maintain confidentiality in all matters related to students and families.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (MA/MS) in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited graduate program.
  • Active registration or licensure with the appropriate California licensing board (AMFT, ACSW, LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or licensed psychologist).
  • Minimum two years of experience providing therapy to neurodiverse children and adolescents, preferably in school or clinical settings with students exhibiting emotional, social, behavioral, or developmental challenges.
  • Experience working with students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, anxiety, or other social-emotional or behavioral differences preferred.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn effective intervention strategies for students with PDA is a plus.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with multidisciplinary teams.
  • CPI certification (or willingness to obtain) and ability to participate in crisis intervention as needed.
