Responsibilities
  • Incumbents in both Crime Analysis and Intelligence assignments perform duties including planning, assigning, and evaluating work of staff; coordinating information sources and program components; and ensuring compliance with department policies.
  • Coordinate crime analysis and intelligence activities with divisions within the Sheriff’s Department and external entities; develop reports, manuals, and program evaluations; and provide briefings to stakeholders.
  • Represent the Department at meetings, seminars, conferences, and public events.
Crime Analysis Assignment
  • Coordinate administration of crime analysis activities and present efforts to city councils and police chiefs to garner support for the Program.
  • Meet with unit commanders to identify operational needs and maintain liaisons with local, State, and Federal law enforcement for information exchange.
  • Prepare reports and program documentation, including procedure manuals and statistical summaries.
Intelligence Center Assignment
  • Coordinate with external counter terrorism and intelligence units to set goals for collection, analysis, storage, and dissemination of intelligence.
  • Manage requests for investigative support, assess threat accuracy, and prioritize workload for intelligence personnel.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert on privacy issues, including responses to FOIA/Public Records requests.
Requirements To Qualify

Option A:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Social/Behavioral Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field, and five years of supervisory experience in crime and/or intelligence analysis or law enforcement investigative support in a recognized agency.

Option B: A Master's degree in one of the listed fields and three years of supervisory experience in crime and/or intelligence analysis in a recognized agency.

License

A valid California Class C Driver License or ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to perform job duties.

Important Information
  • Those assigned to the Sheriff’s Intelligence Unit must be able to obtain and maintain a national security clearance and be a U.S. citizen.
  • Flexible schedule; some nights and weekends required.
  • Some travel required.
Physical Class

Physical Class 2 - Light: includes administrative positions requiring light physical effort and occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds.
