The Los Angeles County Probation Department is seeking highly motivated individuals to fill the role of Probation Officer. As a Probation Officer, you will assist and advise youth on ways to redirect behavior into pro-social channels, while assisting youth in managing their behavior through coaching, counseling, and acknowledging pro-social behavior.
Responsibilities include performing probation work under close supervision, assisting in and learning to perform the work of professional level probation officers involved in the care and treatment of detained youth. This includes positions assigned to a residential treatment facility or a detention services facility, where you will be responsible for tasks such as caseload management, dorm and facility security, supervision of work and fire suppression crews, and public relations and community liaison services.
Requirements for the position include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, and the ability to meet the qualifications for designation as a Peace Officer within the Probation Department. This includes being at least 21 years of age, having no felony convictions, and being a U.S. citizen.
The selection process will consist of a multiple-choice and/or simulation assessment, as well as a background investigation and medical examination. Candidates must receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the weighted test parts of the examination to be placed on the eligible register.
