Overview

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join their real estate & hospitality development firm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial reporting and operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance for various real estate development projects. In this role, you will lead and manage a team, and be responsible for financial operations to grow the financial future of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the preparation and review of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed financial models and projections for ongoing and upcoming real estate projects.
  • Monitor and track project costs to ensure alignment with the budget and identify variances.
  • Conduct variance analysis to evaluate actual performance against forecasted budgets and prior periods.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead the budgeting process for real estate development projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and financial strategy.
  • Develop forecasts for revenue, expenses, and capital expenditures for ongoing and new projects.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on financial performance and projections.
Accounting Oversight
  • Supervise the general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and journal entries.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and relevant regulations in the real estate industry.
  • Prepare and coordinate tax filings, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws.
Cash Flow Management
  • Manage cash flow for real estate development projects, ensuring that all projects are funded according to schedules.
  • Work with lenders, investors, and other stakeholders to secure financing and manage disbursements.
Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and processes to safeguard company assets.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring adherence to accounting standards, tax laws, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting and finance professionals, fostering an environment of continuous learning and development.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including development, construction, and legal teams, to streamline financial processes and workflows.
Financial Strategy & Advisory
  • Provide financial analysis and guidance to senior management and executives to support decision-making for new developments and capital investments.
  • Assist in strategic planning by providing financial insights into development feasibility, risk assessments, and financial viability.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 7+ years of accounting or finance experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in real estate development or construction.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, tax laws, and financial regulations related to real estate development.
  • Proficient in financial software and ERP systems; experience with Yardi, Procore, or similar software is a plus; must have advanced excel skills.
  • Excellent financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and interact with senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment with changing priorities.
Preferred Skills
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Knowledge of project management software and tools used in real estate development.
