Manager Payroll Tax

Overview & Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled payroll tax professional who can expertly manage complex, multi-state payroll tax operations in a fast-paced, evolving environment. This role requires a detail-driven individual with deep knowledge of Federal, State, and Local payroll tax regulations, solid analytical capabilities, and the ability to ensure precise filings, reconciliations, and compliance across multiple entities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• In charge of timely and precise remittance of Federal, State, and Local payroll taxes for US entities doing business in multiple states and localities to a third-party vendor
• Tasked with maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the data provided to third-party vendors. Preparation, reconciliation, and filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual withholding and unemployment tax returns
• Entrusted with state audits for all entities
• Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation of W2 wages and with holdings for all entities, including reconciliation of third-party vendor files/reports to the source system
• Preparation, reconciliation, and review of Forms W-2C and amendment of associated payroll tax returns
• Monthly reconciliation of the Company Divisions' payroll balance sheet accounts
• Quarterly and annual reconciliation of employee equity
• Provide analytical assistance to divisional Accounting Departments for matters related to payroll tax and deduction liability accounts
• Owns the process to add or deactivate jurisdictions for all entities, including divisional entities, on the external payroll
• Oversee execution and documentation of SOX tests
• Research and respond to payroll tax-related inquiries from employees, agencies, and other third parties
• Provide support on matters related to external unemployment advising
• Act as liaison with the Treasury Department regarding transfers of all related payroll tax payments
• Manage testing of all payroll tax system upgrades and enhancements before production implementation, including documenting test scenarios and scripts; special projects as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

• 6-7+ years of experience
• 5+ years' experience with high-volume multi-state payroll tax

Additional Qualifications:

• Experience with ADP Smart Compliance or other third-party provider preferred
• Demonstrates robust insight into payroll tax adjustments within payroll systems to ensure reliable compliance and reporting.
• Experience with SAP ECP Payroll is desired, but a large-scale ERP is required
• Demonstrated comprehension of and experience with Federal, State, and Local payroll tax regulations and filings required, with robust State experience in NY and CA
• Robust knowledge of current compensation rules
• Must be detail-oriented with top-notch analytical skills
• Proficiency with personal computers and the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Solid organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
• Forward-thinking with exemplary follow-up skills
• Proven capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Hiring Salary Range: $98,000..

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This position is bonus eligible.
