Overview

ResponsibilitiesReporting Relationships and Duties: Reporting to the Alta Sea COO, the Controller will be responsible for implementation and oversight for all finance, accounting, tax, reporting and record keeping, as well as financial administration for all Alta Sea projects, programs, and funding sources, including sub-tenant leasing. The Controller will be involved in supporting presentations to the Board, Executive Committee, and Audit Committee, and will work closely with Alta Sea’s CEO and Executive Director.
The Controller will be responsible for all accounting operations, including receivables, payables, payroll, general ledger, tax, reporting and grants administration. The Controller will support and/or direct those responsible for producing annual tax, and other financial compliance documents and reports. The Controller will ensure Alta Sea has systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and auditing. The Controller will work closely with program leaders and staff in support of program operations.
The Controller will also assist management and the Board to enhance and better integrate finance, fundraising, and strategic planning/development.
Additional Responsibilities:
Finance, Accounting, Tax
- Oversee and ensure compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements;
- Maintain internal controls and processes for revenue, receipts, expenses, disbursements, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures;
- Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit financial reporting requirements and financial operations;
- Timely prepare/generate monthly and annual financial statements, and clearly present internally generated, CPA generated, and audited financial statements to management and the Board;
- Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal, state and private funders, and the Board;
- Create, track, and help implement operating budgets; assist management in the annual budgeting and planning process;
- Recommend and oversee strategies and activities related to banking, investment of reserves, and insurance firm relationships;
- Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and grants, if applicable;
- Support sub-tenant leasing activities, including invoicing tenants, including payment for CAM fees, utilities, and IT;
- Other duties as may be assigned.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for a leader with at least five years of nonprofit accounting and financial management experience. Specific requirements include:
- Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting. A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and grants is essential;
- Successful experience in construction accounting;
- Team player, able to train and supervise, and leverage staff strengths to accomplish common accounting/financial tasks and goals;
- Highest degree of integrity, ethics, credibility, and unwavering commitment to Alta Sea’s mission;
- Minimum of a B.A. (CPA and/or MBA preferred);
- Considerable experience coordinating and managing audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments;
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Quick Books (or other office accounting/financial management software);
- Ability and commitment to meet deadlines; work remotely at times; and work occasionally outside of normal business hours if needed.
Pay range is $100K - $130K based on experience. Benefits include paid vacation, medical/dental/vision insurance, life and long-term disability insurance.
