The Product Strategy team is a part of Oaktree’s Business Development organization with responsibility for coordinating the process by which Oaktree builds, markets, and services its investment strategies. Product specialists serve as representatives and subject matter experts for Oaktree’s strategies and products, partnering closely with the capital formation and investment teams to drive growth and deepen client engagement.

Responsibilities

This role will be aligned to Oaktree’s Real Estate Debt strategy, covering institutional closed-end and open-end funds, as well as separate account(s). This individual will work in close partnership with Oaktree’s capital formation and real estate investment teams to: perform market demand assessments, shape fundraising strategy, launch new products, and lead the development and ongoing enhancement of the strategy’s collateral suite.

This candidate will be expected to attend real estate investment team meetings and spend considerable time with the portfolio manager(s) of the strategy. This position will also benefit from the resources of the broader product specialist group at Oaktree.

Product Strategy
  • Serve as the global subject matter expert for Oaktree’s real estate debt strategy
  • Coordinate fundraising strategy for the real estate debt strategy globally in partnership with the capital formation and real estate investment teams
  • Seek to achieve client retention and growth in AUM through the ownership of technical product-related investor requests through resolution, serving as the primary liaison to real estate investment team; responsible for articulating current positioning and outlook, recent market activity and material portfolio events
  • Support the completion of request for proposals (“RFPs”) and ad hoc due diligence questionnaires in partnership with Oaktree’s diligence services team
  • Design, create and manage product-reporting and collateral suite for internal and external consumption, including performance and market commentary, quarterly letters and other investor communications (i.e., presentations, factsheets, quarterly reports, insights pieces, etc.)
  • Provide internal training and resources to the capital formation team
  • Lead product-related investor calls and meetings, including new business development pitches, portfolio reviews, and fund webcasts
  • Ensure all communications are fully compliant with industry regulations and firm standards
Product Development
  • Partner with the capital formation team, real estate investment professionals, and other internal stakeholders to explore new product ideas, bespoke client solutions, or new investor channels for product distribution
  • Conduct market demand assessments, execute new fund launches, and track ongoing client engagement and feedback through the completion of fund closings
  • Lead the formation and oversight of separate account and co-investment strategies designed to achieve client needs and objectives
  • Develop internal materials or analysis to support new product ideas
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of relevant experience preferably within the institutional asset management, investment banking, real estate, or consulting industries; client-facing experience preferred
  • Deep understanding of real estate investing, with specific knowledge of real estate credit markets
  • Ability to acquire thorough knowledge of the legal, accounting, compliance and investment aspects of the investment products offered by Oaktree
