Our client is a large, U.S.
-based, high-growth consumer and eCommerce business operating at significant scale. The company generates multi-billion-dollar annual revenue and runs a predominantly digital commerce model supported by a limited retail footprint.
The organization has experienced consistent growth over the past several years and recently moved into a newly built, modern headquarters in Beverly Hills. The finance and tax function is supported by well-established external advisors across income tax, sales and use tax, and audit.
This is a strong environment for a tax professional who wants exposure to complexity, scale, and best-in-class eCommerce operations.
Role OverviewThe Tax Manager will lead the company’s indirect tax function while supporting corporate tax compliance and planning initiatives. This role is highly hands-on and vendor-facing, with a strong emphasis on sales and use tax, audits, and compliance in a high-volume transaction environment.
The role requires someone who is comfortable owning processes, coordinating with outside advisors, and operating in a fast-paced, growing organization.
Key Responsibilities- Own and manage indirect tax compliance (sales/use tax, VAT, business license, property tax), representing approximately 80% of the role
- Coordinate and oversee external service providers to ensure timely, accurate filings and remittances
- Manage sales and use tax audits and inquiries, including direct interaction with state and local taxing authorities
- Support corporate income and franchise tax compliance (approximately 20% of the role) in partnership with external advisors
- Conduct tax research and assess the impact of new tax laws and regulatory changes
- Assist with tax accounting and reporting processes
- Support transfer pricing and international tax matters as needed
- Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Finance, Legal, and external auditors
- Improve tax processes, controls, and documentation through special projects and system enhancements
- Provide internal guidance on tax policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–7 years of tax experience with a strong focus on indirect tax
- Direct experience managing sales and use tax audits
- Public accounting and/or private industry experience preferred
- Background in retail, consumer products, or eCommerce environments is highly desirable
- Experience with Avalara required;
Net Suite experience preferred - Strong data orientation and comfort working with large data sets
- Advanced Excel skills required; exposure to Looker, Power Query, or SQL is a plus
- Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable coordinating with external advisors
- CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation
- Combination of public accounting and in-house experience
- High-volume transaction or eCommerce tax exposure
- Net Suite
- Strong judgment around data accuracy and integrity
- Clear communicator with internal teams and outside providers
- Organized, proactive, and able to operate with minimal oversight
