Under the general supervision of a Supervising Tax Auditor II, the Business Taxes Specialist (BTS) II serves as lead auditor over teams of experienced auditors on the most difficult and complex audits, primarily handling large worldwide business entities.
- Make audit appointments and interact with tax managers, directors, partners of accounting firms, attorneys and corporate officers.
- Explain audit findings, prepare accurate and complete audit reports and written correspondence.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to audit teams, especially on emerging industries or precedent‑setting issues.
- Conduct special projects, tasks and other job‑related functions as needed, including assisting the office reviewer.
- May rotate into the BTS II audit review position.
Position is a mobile worker role requiring at least 50% travel, including overnight stays, and may require partial telework for eligible California residents.
Special Requirements- Participation in E‑Verify and submission of Form I‑9 for U.S. work authorization.
- Must be fingerprinted and pass a background investigation.
- Position may require testimony in administrative hearings or criminal court proceedings.
- Permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA.
- Current or former legislature employee for 2+ years.
- Current or former non‑elected exempt executive branch employee for 2+ consecutive years.
- Retired U.S. military with honorably discharged or service disability; submit DD 214 for verification.
