As a Sr. Commercial Loan Underwriter, you will support the Credit Union’s business lending underwriting programs. Your responsibilities include reviewing and recommending decisions for business loans while safeguarding the Credit Union’s overall well‑being by reducing exposure and potential risk.

• Analyze and underwrite Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loans and owner‑occupied commercial real‑estate loans, focusing on the borrower’s financials.
• Determine appropriate financing needs, recommend loan products, and calculate financing amounts.
• Define loan structure, ensuring proper collateral and accountability for all parties.
• Draft loan presentations for new credit proposals.
• Identify and close service gaps.
• Provide recommendations that improve underwriting quality, product design, pricing, and collection practices.
• Support annual reviews of all Member Business Loans (MBLs).
• Obtain approvals and generate Letters of Intent (LOIs).
• Assess proposed deals to verify structure, collateral, and borrower strength against Credit Union guidelines.
• Perform in‑depth analysis of financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, liquidity, leverage, and debt service coverage.
• Generate risk ratings, recommend loan terms, and ensure compliance with board policy and departmental guidelines.
• Handle new loan requests, issue LOIs, and analyze appraisals, environmental reports, and other third‑party reports.
• Underwrite Member Business Commercial Loans, including real‑estate and income‑producing properties.
• Gather financial data from credit bureaus, reporting services, and other industry sources for underwriting decisions.
• Review leases, rent rolls, and management experience to assess credit impact.
• Provide oversight of business lending underwriting programs.
• Train junior underwriters and team members.
• Make credit determinations in the absence of senior leadership.
• Assist with monthly and quarterly reporting on key metrics such as loan performance, trends, and risk ratings.

• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role with comprehensive knowledge of complex commercial and business loan underwriting.
• BA/BS Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NCUA Part 723 Member Business Loans.
• Broad knowledge of financial statement analysis, accounting, cash flow, and mortgage interest calculations.
• Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills, including research, data analysis, and solution recommendation.
• Effective oral and written communication skills across all levels of staff, borrowers, and vendors.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent planning, prioritization, and follow‑through abilities.

Base pay range: $53–$66 per hour.
