Accounting Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the financial reporting, accounting operations, and cash-flow management of a sophisticated, fast-paced family office environment. This position supports a diverse portfolio of entities, including investment vehicles, trusts, partnerships, philanthropic foundations, and personal holdings. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, highly organized, and experienced in working with ultra‑high‑net‑worth principals, advisors, and external partners while maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and discretion.
Key Responsibilities- Lead day‑to‑day accounting operations across multiple entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes; prepare consolidated financial statements
- Oversee cash management, including cash flow forecasting, capital calls, distributions, and liquidity tracking
- Maintain general ledger, chart of accounts, and journal entry accuracy for complex entity structures
- Partner closely with tax advisors to provide supporting documentation and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local filings
- Perform investment accounting: track performance, reconcile valuations, and record capital activity across various asset classes (PE, VC, real estate, hedge funds, and direct investments)
- Manage AP/AR processes, expense tracking, and reimbursement workflows for principals and household operations
- Support trust and estate administration alongside legal and wealth planning teams
- Oversee accounting controls, process improvements, and system enhancements to support scalability and visibility
- Prepare financial analyses, ad‑hoc reporting, and dashboards for principals to support strategic decision‑making
- Liaise with external auditors, custodians, bankers, and investment managers to resolve issues and maintain best‑in‑class relationships
- Train or oversee junior accounting staff or outsourced providers as the organization scales
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required; CPA strongly preferred
- 4‑5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a family office, investment management, or wealth management setting
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, entity accounting, and investment reporting
- Experience managing complex ownership structures, multi‑entity consolidations, and intercompany activity
- Proficiency with accounting and reporting systems such as Net Suite, Quick Books Enterprise, Sage Intacct, or similar; advanced Excel skills
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills
- High level of discretion and professionalism when working with confidential financial and personal information
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small, fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities
- Service‑oriented mindset with strong communication and relationship‑management capabilities
- Exposure to private equity, real estate, or alternative investments
- Experience with trust accounting, estate planning concepts, and philanthropic foundations
- Prior work supporting ultra‑high‑net‑worth individuals or family offices
