Job Duties
  • The Mechanical Inspector will support client's Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within Client's Capital Improvement Program.
  • Candidates must possess a current ICC certification as Commercial Mechanical Inspector.
  • Preferred candidates are those with additional ICC certifications as Electrical and Plumbing Inspector.
  • Successfully hired Candidates must provide Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years, prior to assignment.
  • Must be able to work any assigned shift - day, swing, or night - as required to meet the contractor’s construction schedule.
Duties
  • Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide construction inspection support.
  • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72), mechanical and plumbing codes, and client-specific standards.
  • Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities.
  • Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.
  • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.
Perform inspections of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) installations including, but not limited to:
  • Domestic Water and Sewage Systems.
  • Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping.
  • HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, boilers, ductwork).
  • Smoke Control Systems.
  • Mechanical ventilation and exhaust.
  • Fire and life safety integration (e.g. smoke dampers).
  • Mechanical and plumbing shutdowns, lockout / tagout procedures.
  • Commissioning and balancing reports.
  • Underground utilities and duct banks.
  • High-voltage switch gear and electrical panels.
  • Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems.
  • Interior and exterior lighting systems.
  • Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systems.
  • Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordination.
  • Inspect IT infrastructure installations such as:
    • Low-voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control)
    • Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems
    • Communication cabling and equipment rooms

Qualification:

- Years of Experience/Education/Certificates/Training:

  • Mechanical inspection staff shall have Three (3) years or more experience performing mechanical inspections for Building Construction.
  • Mechanical inspection staff possess a thorough knowledge of the materials and methods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration installations.
  • Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical.
  • Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years.
