Design Manager III – Terminal 7 & 8 Refresh About the RolePADCOM Design & Construction Management Services is seeking a Design Manager III to support the Terminal 7 & Terminal 8 Refresh Project at Los Angeles International Airport.
This role is responsible for overseeing delivery of all project designs across multiple disciplines and contracts. The Design Manager ensures design quality, coordination, compliance, and consistency while supporting the Project Manager and collaborating with stakeholders, designers, and subject matter experts.
The project includes interior renovations, aircraft apron pavement rehabilitation, concessions enabling work, and supporting improvements focused on resiliency, sustainability, and passenger experience.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee review and approval of architectural and engineering design documents.
- Manage design comment resolution and coordinate responses with designers.
- Act as technical liaison between project stakeholders, designers, and subject matter experts.
- Assist Project Manager in defining and maintaining design requirements and responsibilities.
- Review and evaluate proposed scope changes and technical impacts.
- Establish and maintain submittal approval procedures and review consistency.
- Audit project team comments and designer responses for accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor compliance with architectural and engineering standards and quality expectations.
- Coordinate and track permitting documentation and agency approvals.
- Maintain project scope tracker to ensure scope accountability across projects.
- Monitor BIM production and coordinate with LAWA Central BIM team.
- Coordinate interfaces across disciplines including architectural, structural, civil, utilities, IT, and MEP systems.
- Support coordination with adjacent airport projects for operational continuity.
- Prepare briefings, reports, presentations, and meeting materials for stakeholders and leadership.
- Support schedule and budget adherence for design deliverables.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field required
- Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer strongly preferred
- Minimum 15 years managing design of large, complex building or infrastructure projects
- Experience with Design-Bid-Build, CMAR, and Design-Build delivery methods
- Strong knowledge of airport terminal systems including passenger processing, baggage systems, airline operations, and apron requirements
- Ability to identify incomplete or deficient design deliverables and implement corrective action
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to coordinate across multiple technical disciplines and stakeholder groups
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam
- Familiarity with Project Management Information Systems
- Working knowledge of CAD or Revit preferred
- Onsite position at LAX (not remote)
- Consultant-provided laptop and cell phone required
- Transportation to and from job site is employee responsibility
Salary Range: Competitive, based on experience
Schedule: Full-Time salaried position (40-hour baseline)
