Purpose:
The EHS Specialist plays a key role in upholding a zero-incident safety culture by applying attention to detail, continuous learning, and proactive safety practices. Rooted in our CLIMB values, this role requires the courage to speak up and take action when safety is at stake, recognizing that the little things matter in preventing incidents. The EHS Specialist supports program improvement through iteration, fosters mutual trust by collaborating across departments, and strives to be the best in maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment for all employees.
This role values demonstrated capability, judgment, and applied experience as much as formal education. This is an onsite position.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining site specific EHS programs, procedures, and safety plans in alignment with California and federal regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and mitigate environmental, chemical, and biological hazards.
- Support incident and near-miss investigations, identify root causes, and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and lead timely corrective action; escalate when necessary to prevent incidents.
- Monitor and maintain records for permits, compliance reports, and routine filings with regulatory agencies (e.g., Cal/OSHA, EPA).
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to evaluate new equipment, projects, or chemicals for EHS impacts and compliance.
- Facilitate safety training programs for employees, contractors, and vendors; support new hire EHS orientation.
- Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and related documentation.
- Drive continuous improvement through 5S and lean safety practices to systematically reduce ergonomic and workplace risks.
- Maintain EHS databases, track safety metrics, and generate reports for management.
Required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with employees across all levels and external stakeholders.
- Ability to recognize risk quickly and take decisive, responsible action.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time independently, prioritize competing regulatory deadlines, and meet compliance requirements.
- Experience using EH&S applications for training, audits, and compliance tracking.
- Strong investigative mindset with ability to perform practical root cause analysis.
- Collaborative mindset with strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field and 1–2 years of relevant EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment OR No bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of hands-on experience in Environmental Health & Safety, occupational safety, environmental compliance, or a closely related role within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of California regulatory standards (e.g., Cal/OSHA, DTSC) and applicable federal environmental and safety regulations.
