POSITION TITLE: Lecturer Pool – Civil Engineering
POSITION DETAILS:
The Department of Civil Engineering serves nearly 800 undergraduate majors and over 60 graduate students. It offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering and was ranked 8th among non-doctorate granting institutions by U.S. News & World Report. The department is diverse, with strong industry and alumni support.
The department seeks part-time lecturers in areas including Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Surveying, Engineering Graphics/CAD, Engineering Statistics, Hydraulics, Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and Structural Engineering to teach lower and upper division courses.
Responsibilities include instruction, class prep, grading, and office hours, with other duties assigned as needed. Course assignments are made by the Department Chair under the College Dean's guidance.
Part-time lecturers are conditional instructional faculty, hired based on enrollment and departmental needs, with initial appointments usually for one semester, possibly renewable.
Rank and Salary
Initial ranks are typically Lecturer A or B, with salary ranges as of July 2024:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
Salary is pro-rated based on units worked out of 15 WTUs per semester.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's in Civil Engineering or relevant field; or Bachelor's plus five years of teaching or professional experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctoral degree.
- University teaching experience.
- Professional engineering registration.
