RESPONSIBILITIES- Manage the programming, design, construction, and post‑construction of County capital projects of small to medium size, controlling all aspects of cost and schedule.
- Act as the immediately responsible contact for capital projects involving buildings and infrastructure.
- Develop, manage, and update detailed total projects cost estimates and project schedules, exerting cost and schedule control during all phases of project delivery.
- Coordinate project‑related activities of tenant departments and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery within cost and schedule limits.
- Assist a Capital Projects Manager, PW, or a higher‑level manager in coordinating larger and more complex projects.
- Identify potential problem areas in advance and take corrective action or notify competent authority as necessary.
- Coordinate and manage procurement of professional consultant proposals.
- Review changes in program plans requested by client departments and advise on budget and schedule implications.
- Coordinate and monitor construction inspections, making periodic design or construction progress reviews and reports.
- Approve, with limited authority, change orders and recommend disposition on large changes to work.
- Review plans and perform monitoring of current and approved capital projects budgets, making recommendations for adjustments.
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field AND either:
- Two years of project management experience at the level of County of Los Angeles class of Capital Projects Management Assistant, Public Works.
- Three years of experience in project planning and development, systems development, resource management, budget maintenance and control, schedule management and control, design, and construction of building and/or infrastructure projects.
A valid California Class C Driver’s License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job‑related essential functions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS- A valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Structural Engineer, Architect, or Landscape Architect obtained from the United States, OR a valid certification by the Construction Management Association of America as a certified construction manager.
Physical Class II – Administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort, including occasional light lifting to a 10‑pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
