Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Engineer with over 10 years of experience in commercial and industrial construction to ensure workplace safety and compliance across large‑scale projects. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing safety systems and programs to mitigate risks and protect employees, contractors, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction safety, regulatory compliance, and a proven ability to foster a culture of safety on complex projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Program Development and Implementation
    • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs tailored to commercial and industrial construction projects.
    • Establish safety policies and procedures in alignment with OSHA and other applicable regulations.
    • Conduct regular training sessions and workshops to promote safety awareness and compliance among employees and contractors.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation
    • Perform hazard analyses and risk assessments on construction sites to identify and mitigate potential safety concerns.
    • Recommend and oversee the implementation of engineering controls and safety equipment.
    • Develop emergency response plans and coordinate drills to ensure readiness.
  • Site Inspections and Audits
    • Conduct routine safety inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
    • Identify violations, issue corrective actions, and monitor progress to ensure resolutions are implemented effectively.
    • Prepare detailed reports documenting safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective measures.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting
    • Lead investigations into workplace accidents, incidents, and near‑mises to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
    • Compile and submit comprehensive incident reports to management and regulatory authorities as required.
    • Analyze incident trends to propose proactive safety measures.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Stay updated on federal, state, and local safety regulations relevant to commercial and industrial construction.
    • Ensure all project sites comply with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable standards.
    • Manage permits, documentation, and certifications required for project safety compliance.
  • Collaboration and Leadership
    • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution.
    • Lead safety committees and provide regular updates on safety performance to stakeholders.
    • Foster a culture of safety, encouraging open communication and proactive identification of potential hazards.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (required).
    • Master's degree or advanced certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST, CIH) preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in health and safety roles within commercial and industrial construction.
    • Proven track record of managing safety programs for projects exceeding $10 million in value.
    • Extensive experience conducting risk assessments and managing compliance audits.

    Competencies:

    • In‑depth knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and other relevant safety standards.
    • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
    • Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with the capacity to influence and train diverse teams.
    • Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on public sector construction projects.
  • Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and innovative safety technologies.
  • Additional certifications, such as First Aid/CPR Instructor or HAZWOPER, are a plus.
