Job SummaryUnder general direction of the Mobility Programs Office Chief (Supervising Transportation Engineer), the Managed Lane and System Performance Manager (Senior Transportation Engineer) supervises Transportation Engineers and/or Transportation Engineering Technicians. The incumbent oversees all activities related to managed lanes and leads investigation, monitoring, and analysis of state highway system performance within Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. The position also manages the unit’s budget, allocations, expenditures, training, personnel matters, and overall performance.
Responsibilities- Supervise Transportation Engineers and/or Transportation Engineering Technicians.
- Oversee managed lanes and monitor state highway system performance.
- Investigate, monitor, and analyze system performance within Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
- Manage the unit’s budget, allocations, expenditures, training, personnel matters, and overall performance.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to meet system performance targets.
- Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER, CALTRANS exam.
- For those who do not have current eligibility (transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
- To apply for the exam, enroll on the examination list through the Cal Careers portal.
- Must be a Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans and qualify under the applicable examination list.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
- Valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required: no more than two pages, 12‑point Arial font, typed.

Working ConditionsPosition located in a climate‑controlled office with occasional temperature fluctuations due to heating or air conditioning. May require occasional field assignments involving travel to rural locations and work outside normal business hours. Business travel may be required. Telework may be available at the Department’s discretion.
