Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering & Sciences (E&S) team in Woodland Hills, CA
. In this role, you'll support the development and sustainment of advanced military avionics including inertial navigation systems and mission computers for the Sentinel program
.

• Lead and contribute to mechanical design efforts for avionics hardware and systems.
• Design high‑reliability, cost‑effective mechanical components with a focus on manufacturability and production scalability.
• Perform tolerance analyses, GD&T application, drawing creation, and documentation using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Support production and resolve critical issues, including root cause analysis and rapid manufacturing line support.
• Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams: program management, operations, quality assurance, and supply chain.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing across teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5+ years of relevant experience
• Master’s degree in STEM with 3+ years of experience
• Ph.D. in STEM with 1+ year of experience
• Proficiency with mechanical CAD software (preferably Siemens NX).
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Prior experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers.
• Active DoD Secret clearance or higher required.

• Advanced proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter PLM.
• Expert knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and familiarity with ASME/MIL standards.
• Understanding of mechanical stress principles and basic structural analysis.
• Demonstrated innovation in solving complex design problems.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on continuous process improvement.
• Ability to thrive in high‑pressure, fast‑turnaround environments.
• Effective collaboration across technical and non‑technical teams.
