OpportunityAs a Staff Structural – Transmission Line Engineer you will have the opportunity to:
- Support design engineering and analysis on transmission scopes.
- Support large, extensive 345kV+ rebuild and greenfield projects, including trending technologies such as HVDC and 765kV.
- Collect and assimilate data for engineering work. Perform research and prepare calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards.
- Develop recommendations for equipment and materials; understand and work successfully within budget, project schedule, and quality requirements.
- Assist with providing guidance to engineering team members.
- Maintain positive client relations, understanding client interests and drivers through effective communication with the project team.
- Assist with business development activities.
- Function as a technical specialist.
- Apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods with minimal supervision.
- Expand knowledge and skill set in the area of discipline.
- Learn, remain current, and apply independent knowledge and interpretation about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and Black & Veatch policies and procedures relative to assigned tasks.
- Consistently and independently apply knowledge and comply with Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks.
- May be responsible for ensuring compliance with Black & Veatch quality program.
- Provide guidance and direction to others from the same project and discipline.
- Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables.
- Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
- Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
- Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Plan and conduct independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.
- Review lower level engineering work or assignments.
- Be responsible for oversight of data collection, assimilation and management for engineering work; lead smaller production teams; and/or serve as the responsible charge for a project.
- Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
- Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects.
- Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on less complex projects.
- May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
- Recognized as a technical specialist by the division having in‑depth knowledge of an engineering process and/or technical aspects of an industry.
- Design a complete project of moderately complex scope within an assigned practice area(s).
- Typically assist with the performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required.
- May be accountable for administrative responsibilities such as:
- Ensuring policies, procedures and processes are effectively implemented and communicated for the work group.
- Ensuring adherence to corporate and division programs.
- Approving timesheets and expense reports.
- Strong PLS CADD experience and proficiency.
