Lead Mechanical / Aerospace Engineer

Location: Remote + On-Site Prototyping (CA)

Type: Full-Time | Founding Team Opportunity

We are an early-stage aerospace startup developing a next-generation cargo airship
. We’re looking for a Lead Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer to help turn ambitious concepts into real-world flight systems.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll lead the design, fabrication, and testing of early prototypes, working closely with the founding team to transform CAD models into fully integrated, flying systems.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop components and systems for lighter-than-air (LTA) aircraft, including structure, propulsion, and control systems.
  • Create detailed system architectures and mechanical design plans.
  • Lead a small, multidisciplinary engineering team while collaborating with external partners and fabricators.
  • Drive integration across aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, and avionics to ensure cohesive system performance.
  • Participate directly in fabrication, prototyping, assembly, and flight testing.
  • Develop and execute mechanical and structural test plans and validation procedures.
  • Contribute creativity, technical insight, and initiative to accelerate the company’s R&D roadmap.
Qualifications
  • Deep passion for aircraft, advanced materials, and emerging aerospace technologies.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering field.
  • 1–5 years of experience in aerospace, robotics, or advanced prototyping environments.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM, structural analysis, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing methods.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, materials science, and mechanical system design.
  • Hands-on experience building complex systems (e.g., UAVs, rockets, Formula SAE, Cube Sats, or similar).
  • Proven ability to lead and execute complex engineering projects from concept to reality.
  • Self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, startup environments.
  • Excellent collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills.
