K2 is building the largest and highest-power satellites ever flown, unlocking performance levels previously out of reach across every orbit. Backed by $450M from leading investors including Altimeter Capital, Redpoint Ventures, T. Rowe Price, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Alpine Space Ventures, and others – with an additional $500M in signed contracts across commercial and U.S. government customers – we’re mass-producing the highest-power satellite platforms ever built for missions from LEO to deep space.
The rise of heavy-lift launch vehicles is shifting the industry from an era of mass constraint to one of mass abundance, and we believe this new era demands a fundamentally different class of spacecraft. Engineered to survive the harshest radiation environments and to fully capitalize on today’s and tomorrow’s massive rockets, K2 satellites deliver unmatched capability at constellation scale and across multiple orbits.
We’re a team that believes the future lies in building large, high-powered satellites that can handle multiple orbits. With multiple launches planned through 2026 and 2027, we’re Building Bigger to develop the solar system and become a Kardashev Type II (K2) civilization. If you are a motivated individual who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and you’re excited about contributing to the success of a groundbreaking Series C space startup, we’d love for you to apply.
The RoleYou will be responsible for partnering with design engineers early on in the process to ensure manufacturability, building the first prototype, designing the build flow, and finalizing the process to hand off to production. You will test out new techniques for manufacturing large satellite structures, mechanisms, and integrated electronics systems. In your first 6 months you will develop manufacturing methods and tooling for large solar array assemblies, define manufacturing flows for subsystems, and collaborate with design teams to improve the manufacturability of spacecraft components.
In your first year you will implement these advanced manufacturing techniques on flight hardware, and transition the technology you develop to production.
- Collaborate closely with design teams to ensure design for manufacturability for initial design, help with design, and tooling ideas
- Develop innovative manufacturing systems for large spacecraft assemblies, including welded/bolted structures, mechanisms, and electrical subassemblies
- Create custom tools and processes to support the manufacturing technologies you create including Manufacturing Execution System software
- Demonstrate the advanced manufacturing techniques on prototypes, working with the design teams to improve the manufacturability of the designs
- Develop the subassembly build flow and implementing on the production flow for the satellite
- Partner with a team of advanced manufacturing engineers to perform R&D of novel manufacturing technologies for current and future spacecraft products
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or other relevant engineering discipline
- 1+ years of experience in an integration/test/automation engineering role (includes internships and design/build/compete extracurricular projects)
- Experience working with technicians and build tooling
- Experience setting up a manufacturing/production floor for first article builds
- Experience designing and implementing technologies for avionics subassembly manufacturing including wire harness manufacturing and PCBA/mechanical enclosure assembly
- Experience designing tooling for mechanical subassemblies
- Experience designing hardware for manufacturability
- Experience with aerospace manufacturing standards such as torque specifications, welding standards, and quality assurance standards
- Experience working in a high volume, rapid production environment
- Experience building and leading teams of engineers with demonstrated ability to mentor team members towards successful outcomes
- Experience working with MES to set up foundation for procedure creation and non conformance
- Base salary range for this role is $100,000 -…
