Lead Mechanical Technician / Advanced Energy Systems / Los Angeles, CA
This position is for a confidential organization developing advanced energy technologies in Los Angeles, CA. This is a fully on-site role supporting the assembly, testing, and operation of first-of-a-kind mechanical systems in a highly technical and fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on mechanical leadership experience and thrive in a prototype-driven setting.
Responsibilities- Lead hands-on mechanical assembly, installation, and maintenance of complex mechanical systems, including pressure systems, piping, valves, pumps, and structural assemblies.
- Supervise and mentor a team of mechanical technicians, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
- Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, schematics, CAD models, and work instructions.
- Coordinate closely with mechanical engineers to support prototype builds, system integration, and design iteration.
- Oversee mechanical troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions for test and operational issues.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards, quality requirements, and configuration control processes.
- Support system testing, commissioning, and experimental operations, including rapid turnaround modifications.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to high professional and safety standards.
- Assist with planning, scheduling, and execution of mechanical work scopes across multiple projects.
- Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the mechanical team.
- 5+ years of hands-on mechanical technician experience in an industrial, energy, or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring technicians on complex mechanical builds or test systems.
- Strong background working with piping systems, pressure vessels, mechanical assemblies, and precision hardware.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems in high-consequence or prototype environments.
- Experience working in regulated, safety-critical, or high-reliability industries strongly preferred.
- Technical degree, trade certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate across engineering and operations teams.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving R&D or first-of-a-kind development environment.
- Ability to work on-site in Los Angeles, CA.
