Role Overview
We are working with a venture-backed hardware startup developing a first-of-its-kind, transportable energy system designed to operate in extreme structural and thermal environments.
The company is entering a critical phase, transitioning from advanced design into manufacturing, integration, and full-system testing
. This role offers the opportunity to take deep technical ownership of structural systems that directly enable a new class of commercial energy technology.
We are seeking a Senior Structures Engineer to lead the design and analysis of critical structural systems. This role spans the full development lifecycle, from early trade studies and material selection through detailed analysis, manufacturing support, and test. The ideal candidate enjoys solving unconventional structural problems and working closely with hardware in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.
Key Responsibilities- Own the design and structural integrity of critical assemblies and high-temperature structural systems
- Conduct trade studies and develop structural concepts to meet performance and safety requirements
- Perform detailed thermomechanical, static, fatigue, vibration, and shock analyses using hand calculations and finite element methods
- Develop manufacturing, assembly, and test plans for structural subassemblies
- Create and manage bills of materials (BOMs) and support supplier development
- Own subassembly design, manufacturing, and test schedules
- Lead risk assessments (FMEA) for assigned subsystems
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering and operations teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or Structural Engineering
- 6+ years of experience designing and analyzing structural systems
- Demonstrated experience performing stress analysis using both first-principles calculations and finite element tools
- Experience designing multi-component assemblies in CAD (NX or similar)
- Experience delivering hardware that has been manufactured, tested, and iteratively improved
- Experience resolving thermal expansion and high-temperature structural challenges
- Strong understanding and application of GD&T
- Ability to quickly develop free-body diagrams for unfamiliar systems
- Experience working in interdisciplinary engineering teams
